Employment Counsel - Retail/Consumer Packaged Goods

We are currently seeking an Employment Counsel to work with a leading athletic apparel retailer on a long-term engagement expected to last one year.
Responsibilities:

Assist the Employment Legal Team to provide counsel to and work closely with Human Resources on recruiting, hiring, benefits, compensation, employee relations, discipline, terminations, investigations, harassment, discrimination, wage and hour compliance, and strategies for managing risk around employment matters.
- Draft and revise employment legal contracts under the supervision of the Legal Team.
- Partner with company stakeholders to gather information and approvals necessary for employment legal matters.
- Field and respond to inquiries from a variety of our teams regarding legal processes.
- Work with all members of the legal team across global office locations, including attorney and administrative personnel.
- Review and monitor law developments, advise business partners as necessary and address potential impact and risk to the company.
- Assist with the design of contracts, policies and best practices in collaboration with other Employment Legal team members.
Preferred Qualifications:
- At least 10 years of experience counseling clients on employment law issues, conducting investigations, and managing litigation.

Ability to build strong cross-functional relationships with team members.

Ability to multi-task and work effectively in a fast-paced environment, both individually and as part of a team.
- Excellent analytical, written, verbal, research, organizational and communication skills.
- Good judgment with an understanding of when to ask for guidance or input.
- Resident of and called to the bar in either Ontario or Alberta.
